Book Study (World History)
MAUS: A Survivor's Tale (Book One)
Students have learned about the Holocaust over many instances from their previous social studies classes; however, many students don't have a strong grasp on WHY or HOW the Nazi party ascended to power and eventually created the devastation of the Holocaust. Students will read the graphic novel MAUS: A Survivor's Tale (Book One) to emphasize the characteristics of the Interwar Period and World War II.

The Joy Luck Club
World History is very focused on developments in Western Europe and the Americas, while historical events that take place in Asia are very often viewed in context of their interaction with a European nation. Since Eastern Asia plays a large part of world history during the Cold War, it is important that students understand Asian culture and how political dealings affect the common man, or in this case, woman. To deepen their understanding of Asia as we work our way to the Cold War and the modern era, students will read the Joy Luck Club and complete individual Chapter Summary Analyses.
