Geography Units
On this page you will be able to find all the resources we've used and the assignments we've done in class. Many of our class assignments and projects will use resources that are posted on this page. If you are missing an assignment from your gradebook, please check here to print it out and complete it at home.
unit 1: A geographer's toolkit
In this unit, we will study the tools and skills geographers use to keep track of the changes on Earth's surface. We will discuss how geography is divided into human and physical geography, the types of maps and their components that make them easy for humans to use, and the different ways maps can be projected. We will also begin our book study on Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

Unit 2: The Physical World
In this unit, we will discuss the internal and external forces that create changes on Earth's surface. Some of the internal forces you will study include Plate Tectonics, Layers of the Earth, and Hot Spots. External Forces include Earth-Sun Relationships, Weathering & Erosion, the formation of Landforms, Natural Disasters, and climate distribution using MELCO factors.

Unit 3: Human-Environment Interactions
In this unit the students will explore how people, places, and environments are connected and interdependent. The unit will begin by exploring the interaction between humans and the physical environment that surrounds them. Students will look at the different ways in which humans either adapt to or modify their environment, as well as explain the processes that have caused changes in settlement patterns. The students will explain the actions that cause changes to urbanization, infrastructure, and the availability of resources. The students will evaluate the significance of technological innovations used to modify the environment and explore the environmental impacts the use of the technology has. In conjunction with the topics covered in this unit, places of physical and political significance will be identified on a map of Latin America.

Unit 4: Population & Migration
In this unit, we will introduce the elements of human geography that will be recurring concepts throughout our study of the different regions of the world.

Unit 5: culture
In this unit, students will be introduced to the concept of culture and the elements that define it. They will also learn how cultures develop and interact with each other as time passes. Students will also track the spread of culture and its impact on global relations.
Mapping region: Europe & Russia
Unit 6: Government systems
In this unit, you will learn about governments and their impact on geography. You will also learn about the different types and levels of governments and how these political units create borders between one another. You will also explore how political power is distributed and how geographers display this information on maps. You will also learn how governments seek political power, and how this often leads to conflicts between different countries.
In some ways, the overall theme of this unit could be described by Taylor Swift's song "We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together". Countries all over the world create relationships and alliances with each other based on a balance of power. When this balance is upset, it could cause a breakup between these countries, often to a point that is beyond repair.
